Welcome from the President

Dear Friends: Assuredly a privilege to welcome you all to the 8th Asian and Oceanian Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Congress (AOPMC, 2023), held at the “City of Joy,” Kolkata, West Bengal. Indeed, we are back in India following the memorable 2nd AOPMC held in New Delhi, 14 years ago.

View complete letter

Initiated in 2007, the biennial AOPMC is the banner convention of MDS-AOS, created as a regional reach scientific platform to facilitate education and interaction between clinicians, researchers, allied health care professionals and special interest groups involved in the care of patients with Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders.

Concurrently in the same venue, the 13th International Symposium of the Asian and Pacific Parkinson’s Disease Association (APPA) is held and is traditionally intended as a forum for persons with Parkinson’s (PWP), their carers and partners, aimed to improve the quality of life through knowledge, skills, new information and research.

True to its form, the adage, “It takes two to tangle,” brings forth the coherence between the AOPMC team from MDS-AOS and the Kolkata team with MDSI in formulating an excellent agenda for the science and breadth of the Congress.

I dare say, there is a ‘third tangle’ and that be you, our congress participants, for without you, we wouldn’t be here to be of service. Your joining us is a manifestation of support, a quest for new learning and best of all, an opportunity to interact with each other; and in person.

Ever thankful we shall be to these ‘three tangles,’ a kudos indeed to the women and men behind each and every endeavor for the sake of AOPMC, the challenges notwithstanding.

Sincerely yours,
