Changes for 2021 AOPMC

Due to the change of date resulting in a shorter timeline, the AOPMC Scientific Program Committee (ASPC) Chairs have decided to replace regular abstracts with a prestigious plenary session dedicated to oral abstract presentations.

Submission is open to the MDS-AOS section (members and nonmembers).

Abstracts will NOT be published in an MDS journal.

10 abstracts will be selected for oral presentations (5 basic science abstracts and 5 clinical abstracts).

From this submission, 2 will be chosen for Junior Awards. The criteria to qualify for a Junior Award is as follows: individual must be the first author of the abstract, Junior to mid-level in their career (individual’s age 45 years or less on the closing date of the submission) AND the Principal Investigator (PI) of the study. The top basic science abstract and the top clinical abstract that meet this criteria will be receive a Junior Award and will be given the opportunity to present in the MDS-AOS Lectures and Junior Awards Plenary following the Opening Ceremony.

Criteria

Abstract submission must meet the following criteria:

  1. The topic must be of critical importance to the clinical/scientific community and/or the public
  2. The study and results reported should be novel (not simply an extension of previously published work) or be definitive of confirming or refuting other critically important work.
  3. The following categories are typically suited to the normal poster sessions and will not be considered: case reports, qualitative surveys, reviews of existing treatments, practice reviews, rating scale validation, small confirmatory studies, small scale epidemiology studies, research proposals.

To qualify for a Junior Award, in addition to the criteria listed above, the individual must be the first author of the abstract, Junior to mid-level in their career (individual’s age 45 years or less on the closing date of the submission) AND the Principal Investigator (PI) of the study.
